City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare

To start off, this book is fantastic and for those of you who are into anything paranormal. Cassandra Clare includes everything from Faeries to vamps and werewolves to demons. If any of these subjects interest you I highly suggest you try this series out.
Clary is a young girl who one day discovers that she can see things normally hidden from the human eye. The question is, why can she see them? And why now? Clary then embarks on a journey to discover who she really is and what part she plays in this newly discovered world.
Don't expect sparkles in the sun in this book. We have real night walkers here (well, so to speak). Expecting the friendly fairy Tinkerbell? Sorry to disappoint, these guys are the old school Seelie and Unseelie court Faeries who are quite nasty. Get my drift? Clare follows pretty closely to traditional lore for all of the supernatural creatures that are encountered.
I give this book (and series for that matter) 5 stars. The story line is original and yet brings traditional lore to life.
Make sure to give this book a try before the movie comes out August 2013!

Sabriel by Garth Nix

The story of Sabriel is a great and quite original one. Sabriel is a young girl attending boarding school. Unlike many of the other young girls, Sabriel has an otherworldly talent: she can use magic and travel into the world of the dead. Although many necromancers (people with the ability to travel into death and control the dead) use their talents for their own selfish purposes, Sabriel was taught by her father never to control but to keep them at rest. Sabriel has always been taught the ways of magic and necromancy by her father until one night, he does not come to teach her. As a matter of fact, she is surprised by an unwelcome visitor that gives grave news: her father is trapped. We then follow Sabriel on her journey through an older world where modern technology fails to work, but magic thrives. Will Sabriel be able to save her father using the tools he equipped her with? Read to find out!!

I personally loved this book and have read it several times. Garth Nix has done a wonderful job creating a fresh and interesting story. I highly recommend it to lovers of fantasy!

A little about me...

Hey all!!
I'm new to the blogging world and just wanted to post a few things about me to get started.  I am 21 years old and live in New York.  I am soon to have a bachelors degree in Psychology and am o so excited!  One of my favorite past times is reading.  The power of the written word!! I love anything from classic novels to fantasy to historical fiction.  The pictures that a brilliant author can paint are just fantastic.  Because I do love reading so much, I have decided to post reviews and my personal opinions on the readings here so that others may learn about a new and interesting read.  Hope you all enjoy! :)
